1. CFL bulbs use less power, but they give off the same amount of light. They're an advantage to the environment as they release less greenhouse emmision into the atmosphere, and since they're made from mercury, no emmision will be made if the bulb is broken.
ReplyDelete2. Isobel Bennett promoted awareness of the marine life around Australia and gathered valuable information on the habitats and behaviours of unfamiliar animals. Today, the Australian public is more aware of factors that could harm them, governemnt organisations have developed new ways of preserving ecosystems to make sure preservation can occur for the future generations.
How are we meant to answer these if these types of questions come out of the SC paper this year. When we havent learnt much about it ....
ReplyDelete1. Advantages of CFL bulbs are it provides same amount of light, but uses 75% less energy. It also lasts longer and it is fairly cheaper. They are environmentally friendly since they release less greenhouse emission.
2.Many scientist have invented and discovered so many things that could improve our lives. One of these wonderful items are telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell. People can now communicate very easily from place to place without having to run all the way like they did in wars or sending owls like harry potter to deliver message. If telephone wasn't invented people would suffer from great difficulties in sending messages or communicaiting
1. Name an environmental advantage of using CFL bulbs and explain why it is an advantage (2 marks)
ReplyDeleteThe power used by CFL lights is between one fifth and one third of that by the equivalent incandescent lamps. This means they use less energy and therefore save our resources and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the environment.
2. Australian Scientists have made contributions to society. Describe the effect of one of these contributions on peoples lives. (2 marks)
Frank Fenner was the Australian Scientist responsible for the eradication of the smallpox disease. This was a significant contribution because smallpox was very contagious and extremely fatal and Fenner has saved many lives by eradicating this disease.
Sir, in the actually S.C. is there like a bit of information that the question relates to? like an article and these questions are based on it? coz otherwise im kinda dead.
1. an advantage of using CFL bulbs is that they only require 1/4 of the amount of energy used by other lights which helps reduce the carbon emissions as there is less burning of coal for one light bulb.
ReplyDelete2.Yvonne Aitken was a well known agricultural scientist. She was the person who was able to work out how farmers can produce a larger yield which helps every farmer as they now know how to create larger yields of crops allowing for more produce being grown and sold in supermarkets.
James - This is from the light unit in year 9. It should show us that we need to spend some time working on last years topics.
ReplyDelete***Let's make sure we read the question in detail and describe Australian scientists only.***
Rachel - for this specific question in the S.C. there was a small article about CFL bulbs. Other questions have come up about CFL bulbs without an article, so it is something we need to know about.
Your answers have been great so far. Linking the fact that they use less energy to the amount of greenhouse gases that are produced is what this question is looking for.
Mr. Pattison
1. Cfl bulbs are good for the environment because they use less energy, therefore meaning less greenhouse gases are released. This is good for our ozone layer etc.

CFL light bulbs are better for the enviroment because they don't use as much energy, thus creating less greenhouse gases benefiting the enviroment in a long-term perspective, as well as using less fossil fuels to produce.
ReplyDeleteFrank Fenner was an Australian scientist who worked very hard throughout is whole career, he researched smallpox and found ways to eradicate this irritating disease, therefore creating a cleaner enviroment for future Australians.
SIR.
ReplyDeletefor the assignment do we have to include the background research on both experiments we researched + why we did it or just the background research on the one we ended up doing?
relating to rachels question, do we have to reprint the whole experiment ?? or just hand in the one you've marked?? and also we still have write why we chose it ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? ?!?!??!??!?!??!???!? :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Stephen Angyal was a carbohydrate chemist. Angyal focused a lot of his time on studying inositols. Much later, after Angyal retired, inositols turned out to be very important compounds. It was discovered that a certain inositol derivative is an essential part of the human nervous system. This discovery was primarily due to Angyal’s research.

ReplyDelete2. prof. john swan has produces and recreated a household insectiside that has been used for over 20 years!! DDT is lethal to insects, especially mosquitoes.
1. An environmental advantage of the CFL light bulb is that it cuts down on the amount of power that is used to generate the electricity used to obtain light from it. This is an advantage is it provides that one difference in the burning of the fossil fuels needed to generate the electricity, for the entire world.
ReplyDelete2. an Australian scientist who has contributed to society is Ian Frazer. He was an immunologist who is known for his work on a cervical cancer vaccine, which works by protecting women for the human papilloma virus (HPV).
and speaking from experience the HPV vaccine freakin' hurts like hell! :P

ReplyDelete2. Australian Scientists have made contributions to society. Describe the effect of one of these contributions on peoples lives. (2 marks)
1. an environmental advantage of using CFL bulbs is that it uses less electricity to provide the same amount of light. this is an advantage because it less electricity will have to be produced at power stations and in turn less greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
2.Dorothy Hill’s work will benefit society by giving everybody more knowledge of geology and palaeontology, especially about the Palaeozoic corals. Also her achievements as a woman will motivate all woman over the world, because to have achieved so many things in a time when males dominated almost everything gives hope to women who want to achieve great things.
1. Name an environmental advantage of using CFL bulbs and explain why it is an advantage (2 marks)
ReplyDeleteAn environment advantage to using CFL light bulbs is that they require much less energy to operate, while still providing the same about of light. This is a major advantage as by not using this extra energy, we are helping to reduce pollution and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
2. Australian Scientists have made contributions to society. Describe the effect of one of these contributions on peoples lives. (2 marks)
Dorothy Hill was an Australian scientist who dedicated her life to the study of ancient corals. Because of her research, society has a better understanding of what life was like in the past, and we can use this information to predict geological events in the future. She also mapped out various regions of Queensland, allowing for this land to be used in an efficient manner.
One environmental advantage of using CFL light bulbs is that they use power efficiently (at least more efficiently than incandescent light bulbs). Therefore, less energy needs to be produced to use the bulbs. This is an advantage as it not only reduces green house gases (created in energy production) but it also means that the user has to pay for less energy consumption.
ReplyDeleteRohan Baker, an Australian Molecular biologist, discovered and isolated the gene sequence for human ubiquitin (a protein found in human cells). The purpose for this protein is to attach some of itself to redundant or harmful proteins in the human body, targeting them to be destroyed. Dr. Baker's discovery is so important as it has allowed scientists to explore avenues into the reduction and prevention of some diseases, particularly cancers. Cancers can be caused by dangerous proteins in the body. These are mostly destroyed by ubiquitin in the body but these findings have given scientists a push in the write direction on searching for a cure for cancer.
